Beach Trip

Since we were craving the beach, we decided to take a weekend trip to Bear Lake in north eastern Utah. We were all looking forward to the sand, sun, and water for the weekend. We decided to stay in Logan and camp at the Hampton Inn. Then, we would drive to Bear Lake each day which was about a 45 minute trip through the canyon and over some mountains. The lake was beautiful blue. On Friday, we spent most of the day at the beach and started to pack up to go around 5. We climbed in, buckled up, and the car wouldn't start. It was completely dead, not even a clicking of any sort. Hmmmmm.... so Keith and I marched down the beach to find someone who had jumper cables in their car (we now have a set in our car :) ). A kind and prepared soul drove over and gave us a jump. Off we went.

On the way, we realized we needed to fill up with gas before heading to Logan and the gauges were bouncing around like crazy after the jump. After filling up with gas, the car again wouldn't start. Another jump and we made it safely back to Logan where the car stalled in the hotel parking lot. The kids and I pushed it into a parking spot. It was after 7 pm and no car places were open. Not a fun experience for vacation.

The next day, we rented a car and left the van in the parking lot the rest of the weekend since the auto shops were closed until Monday. We drove up to Paris, Idaho to the ice caves. Very cool. On the way, we saw cows. Right next to the road. An unusual, funny sight.
It was hot outside, but when we entered the cave, it was instantly cold. Thankfully, we brought our sweatshirts and flashlights. We squeezed through a small area of the cave to a dark inner area that was covered in a sheet of ice and rocks along the side. At the very back in a small area, there was a huge icicle hanging down the cave. Afterwards, we climbed around the outside and headed back to Garden City to grab a raspberry shake. A trip to Bear Lake is not complete unless you have at least one of their raspberry shakes.

On Monday, we jumped the car using our new jumper cables and the rental car. The car drove down the street to the automotive shop. After running a few tests on the battery, electrical system, and alternator, all we needed was a new battery. We were happy to have a functioning car to drive us home.
We stopped on our way out of town for the obligatory picture in front of the Logan temple. It is a beautiful temple. In spite of the car trouble, we had a fantastic weekend.
