Clear Creek

Every year, the 5th graders go on an overnight field trip. The year Zack went, Keith went with him. It was Nicole's turn and I was able to go.

I was asked to ride on the bus with the girls since all the teachers were already up there with the boys. (The boys stay the first night. When the girls arrive, the boys leave.) I have to admit, I was not looking forward to that bus ride. Usually, I get headaches on long field trip bus rides. To my surprise, I had a great time on the bus. Another mom and I were in charge. We played bingo and taught the girls camp songs. We decided to surprise the teachers at the skit time that night by singing one of the songs we learned on the bus.

We had a 2 hour drive through a canyon and up a mountain. At the top of the mountain pass, we had white out snowing conditions. I was so grateful to not be driving. The time passed quickly and I did not get a headache. The girls were a lot of fun. It was beautiful up there.
These are the cabins where we slept. The person walking in the picture is Nicole's teacher, Mrs. Wilson. The 5th grade teacchers in our school are awesome and so much fun. They made the experience even better.
The first day, we went on a hike up to the top of a mountain. The girls all had an extra garbage bag to use as a sled. Nicole had a lot of fun sledding down on her bag. The bag kept slipping out, so she slid on her snow pants.
We went on a couple of hikes, did some crafts, planned and watched some skits, ate cafeteria food (ick), did some team building activities, played games, conducted a science experiment, and had fun.
I only got 3 hours of sleep that night. I can't blame it on chatty girls. Our cabin of girls was in bed at 10:30. I couldn't sleep. I think I was on heightened alert. When we got home, I slept for 3 hours straight.
