A Funeral and Fire

Tuesday, we spent most of the day in Morgan at the funeral and graveside services for Fern Carter, Grandpa Vaughn Carter's mother. She lived a long, full life and the service celebrated her life with tender and touching stories. All the Carter siblings were present which has not happened in quite a while.
Where there's smoke....

After laying Great Grandma Carter to rest, we headed home. As we were driving home, we saw some huge plumes of smoke coming over the mountains. We knew it was close to our end of the valley. Turns out it was in Alpine just northeast of our house. This was the view from our front yard. The winds blew the smoke over the mountains during the day, but the wind stopped and the smoke settled in the valley the following day. On Thursday, it rained and the temperatures cooled down. We hadn't had rain in over 30 days. The rain helped put a quick end to the fire.
