Keith is the Cubmaster for our ward. In Cub Scouts, February brings the Blue and Gold dinner/activity. This activity is to celebrate the birthday of the Cub Scout program. This year, the Bear den leaders decided to take it on and make it a carnival themed activity. Keith borrowed a cotton candy machine from our friends. He decided to try it out in the basement to make sure it would work well and he knew what to do. The basement was a bad choice of location. As we learned, little tufts or wisps of cotton candy would float out of the machine, into the air, and land wherever. Most often, it landed on Keith and Nicole who were making the cotton candy. While they made the cotton candy, I literally sucked the floaties out of the air with our vacuum. The other funny thing was the smoke alarm kept going off. There was no smoke. The machine was set up almost directly underneath the smoke alarm and it must have sensed some of the heat. After the trial run, we set the machine up at the edge of the garage. Each time we made the candy, Keith and Nicole ended up with a lot on them. In the end we made approximately 170 cotton candy cones. The most important part was that the Blue and Gold was a success.
