Hero of the Day

Saturday morning started with Nicole's last swim meet this season. She will miss the final county meet since we will be on vacation. We left around 6:30 am to get there early enough to have a little warm up time. As we were getting our chairs and bag out of the car, I asked Nicole to grab her swim bag. She always has her swim bag with her goggles, towels, book, etc. She gave me a shocked expression and said she did not bring her bag. She said she was so busy getting herself ready she forgot to get her bag. I just assumed getting herself ready would include grabbing her bag, but I am just the mom.

Thankfully, Keith was not with us. He was planning to attend a Jujitsu convention which started at 9 am. He was at home, happily sleeping in, when I called at 7. I explained our dilemma. He volunteered to bring the bag down. The drive down and back would take an hour of his sleeping time. He wanted Nicole to have her own goggles instead of renting them at the pool. (Renting consists of .50 to use a pair of goggles in their lost and found.) Keith was the best dad of the day.

Fast forward to later that night. My friend, Roxanne, and I went to see The Police concert. I basically got to sing and dance with Sting and his friends for a couple hours. It was fabulous and we had a great time. We decided to wait in the parking lot instead of fighting traffic. We were on our way home and actually were about 15 minutes away when I heard a strange noise. Initially, I assumed it was the construction on the freeway. Wrong. I realized the sound was coming from my van. I looked in the rear view mirror to see smoke coming from the back of the car. Smoking cars are not a good thing. Roxanne saw that the smoke was coming from the tire. I zipped across the freeway to the shoulder. We got out of the car to find a very shredded rear tire. I had a major blowout.

At this time it was almost midnight. Who do you call on a Saturday night at midnight to come to help you with a flat tire? Once again, I called and woke Keith to rescue me. I was able to get the spare, jack and everything started. Then, l I tried to unscrew the lug nuts. I could not make them move. I was able to rock the car a little bit back and forth while trying to loosen the lug nuts. Keith came and finished the job. We made it home around 1:30 am.

Keith was the hero of the day.

Keith, you are the hero of the day! Good thing you were around to swoop in and save the day. How did Nicole do at the meet anyway? And I am seriously jealous about dancing with Sting. Another wish unfulfilled for me. Boo Hoo.

Love the blog by the way. Add more Italy trip pix. Can't get enough of vicarious vacations!
